Got eggs?

Remember our cute, fuzzy chicks from August? Well, they got big. Which, is kind of the point. They've recently started laying eggs, too. YEAH! We let them out of the pen to run through the backyard and dig for bugs. For some reason, they want to try to come into the house. They'll walk up to the back door and try to sneak up on Rob while he's at the computer. More than once we've had to shoo them out of the house.

Isn't this an awesome coop? Rob made it himself! The side on the left is a big door that opens to the 6 nesting boxes where we collect eggs each day.

So far we've been getting about 1-2 a day. Don't they look nummy?? Oh, and dad, that big one at the top was a double-yolker! I used it when I made oatmeal chocoalte chip cookies tonight. Don't you wish you lived closer??? :D

Well, Rob decided that it was just SO much fun, we had to get more fowl. So, he got an incubator. You see - it's cheaper to get the eggs than the birds themselves. Here's M & Rob placing our first batch in the incubator.

That's 120 quail eggs. Yup, 120. We'll probably get about an 80% hatch rate. And they birds are about 1/2 the size of a cornish game hen when grown. They'll be for eatin'. Mmmmmm.

I'll show pics when they hatch in about 2 1/2 more weeks!

Awesome! I love eggs. Those and cheese are what I miss most being (mostly) a vegan. WTG, Rob, on that coop. It looks great!
