Quail Chicks

I promised, and here they are - our baby chicks started hatching! We knew they were due to hatch and I'd been checking them often yesterday, and even saw a few eggs popping around. About 6pm last night we all of a sudden had 2 little chicks in there - and the kids were SO excited to watch a 3rd break out of its shell.

Here's our first little chick!

See how TINY they are? They're only about a quarter ounce. They'll grow to be about 1/2 the size of a cornish game hen.

Oh, and for being so tiny - they sure do cheap loud! Our poor dogs think they're saying "treats" and want to snack on them!

Here they are in the brooder Rob made for them under the heat lamp. They are fast little buggers too.
This morning the little girl came barreling into our bedroom this morning shouting "There are a LOT more quail this morning! I can't believe how many there are!" The kids sure are loving this too.

More cute fluffies!

We will be keeping some of these to breed for ourselves - it takes 4 quail eggs to equal one chicken egg in a recipe - but they will be fore eating mostly. And we'll be selling off some as well - they're quite popular and will more than cover our expenses.
I LOVE watching my little farm-life grow!

"Treat!" LOL! Yes, they are. ;) So cute and fluffy! My girls saw your pics and want to raise quail, too, now. I'm not showing them the bunny pics. ;)
